About the University

Beijing International Studies University (北京第二外国语学院) was founded in October 1964 and was one of China's first institutions to offer undergraduate education. Foreign languages are its primary discipline and tourism its specialised subject; it also teaches applied economics, business administration, Chinese language and literature, philosophy and international and regional studies. BISU has more than 10,000 students and enrols over 1,500 international students every year.

Programmes for International Students

Bachelor's (4 years): 24 Chinese-taught majors and Financial Management in English.
Master's (2 to 3 years): professional and academic programmes in Chinese, plus Tourism Management, MBA, MPAcc and Modern China and City Development in English.
Non-degree: preparatory programme, Chinese language and intensive Chinese, general and senior advanced (visiting) student programmes, short-term summer courses and Chinese-English bilingual courses on China.

Degree programmes other than Chinese Language accept students only in the fall. Applications are reviewed in about 15 working days, with entrance exams or interviews depending on the programme.

Campuses

Chaoyang Campus: in Beijing's Chaoyang District, between the Central Business District (CBD) to the west and the Beijing Municipal Administration Center in Tongzhou to the east; excellent transport links.
Yanqing Campus: in Yanqing District, within Beijing's ecological conservation area, with a natural setting for study.

The School of International Education of Chinese Language teaches international students and is one of the first HSK test centres in Beijing, holding HSK exams five times a year (April, May, June, October and December).

Apartment No. 2 and Qinxue Apartment have shared kitchens and laundry rooms with washers and dryers; Apartment No. 12 has a laundry room.
Room deposit: 500 RMB, refunded at check-out if nothing is damaged.
Each room gets 100 kWh of free electricity per month.
Paying in advance can exempt students from accommodation fees during winter and summer holidays.
Rooms are allocated by BISU at registration; the BISU Scholarship mainly covers accommodation fees.

International Students and Programmes

More than 1,500 long-term and short-term international students study at BISU every year: master's, bachelor's, preparatory and visiting students.
BISU teaches 10 foreign languages: English, Russian, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic, plus Chinese for international students.
Short-term programmes: summer Chinese classes, custom classes for groups of 10 or more and Chinese-English bilingual courses on Chinese politics, economy, foreign trade, history, culture and tourism.
