About the University

Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (东北财经大学) was founded in 1952 in Dalian, a coastal city in Liaoning Province. It is a finance and economics university with programmes in economics, management, law, literature and science. Its School of International Education, established in 1988, has taught nearly 15,000 international students from about 150 countries. DUFE is one of China's earliest HSK test centres, a combined HSK and BCT (Business Chinese Test) centre, and passed the Ministry of Education's quality certification for international student education in 2017.

Programmes for International Students

• Bachelor's (4 years): 40 Chinese-taught majors.
• Master's (2 to 2.5 years): all Chinese-taught master's majors, plus International Trade, Financial Management and Tourism Management in English.
• PhD (3 to 5 years): 34 Chinese-taught doctoral majors, with English teaching available in finance, accounting, economics and management.
• Non-degree: long-term Chinese and Business Chinese, summer Chinese courses and group Chinese immersion programmes.

Applicants whose language level is below the requirement can take a one-year preparatory course.

Campus in Dalian

DUFE is located in Shahekou District of Dalian, a coastal city in Liaoning Province. The School of International Education provides a multi-functional learning and living space for international students, combining study rooms, dormitories and leisure facilities.

• One of China's earliest HSK test centres and a combined HSK and BCT test centre.
• Three English-taught courses (Corporate Finance, Advanced Econometrics, Management Accounting) are recognised as national brand courses by the Ministry of Education.
• Practical learning: cross-provincial language trips, company visits, rural field trips, sports meets, Chinese speech contests and talent shows.

Dormitories for International Students

International students live in two on-campus buildings:

• Binlin Building: renovated rooms with study and lounge areas on the ground floor.
• Chongde Building: single and double rooms with private bathrooms, a front desk, a common lounge, shared kitchens and a laundry room.

Students may also rent off campus, and the School of International Education helps with housing information. Near the university, flats of 50 to 150 square metres cost about 1,500 to 4,000 RMB per month.

DUFE is the only local (provincial) finance and economics university in the top 100 of the Shanghai Ranking 2026 and has held 6th place among China's finance and economics universities in recent editions.

International Cooperation

• Nearly 15,000 international students from about 150 countries have studied at DUFE.
• DUFE is a designated host for the Chinese Government Scholarship and the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship and recommends candidates for the Confucius Institute Scholarship.
• The Surrey International Institute is a joint academic partnership between DUFE and the University of Surrey (UK).
• DUFE was the first university in China to take part in and pass the quality certification for Sino-foreign cooperative education.
• The Cross-border Education Centre partners with more than 20 universities in over 10 countries and regions at bachelor's level and 15 universities in 9 countries and regions at master's level.
