ECNU has 34 schools and institutes, 39,000+ students, 4,200 faculty and 300+ partner universities. Its strongest fields are education, psychology, geography, ecology and marine sciences. Two campuses: Putuo in central Shanghai (language courses, education, economics, IT) and Minhang (sciences, languages, arts, sports).

Bachelor's applicants need the CSCA exam: mathematics and Chinese (humanities or STEM), plus physics or chemistry for sciences. There was no minimum score for 2026 admission. Applicants under 18 need a guardian in China. Arts programmes require a portfolio or performance video.

Putuo — the historic campus in central Shanghai on Zhongshan North Road by the Suzhou Creek. It hosts language courses, education, economics, IT and most international dorms.
Minhang — a large modern campus in southern Shanghai: sciences, foreign languages, arts, sports and graduate dorms. A shuttle bus runs between the campuses.
Online booking during set periods — only for admitted students who have paid tuition or received a scholarship. A whole semester is paid upfront, first-come, first-served.

Rooms have air-conditioning and internet; floors have a kitchen with fridge and laundry. Prices apply to stays of a semester or more; cancellation before check-in gets a full refund.

Restrictions: English-taught bachelor's, joint programmes and School of International Chinese Studies programmes are not eligible for the Shanghai scholarship. Professional business master's (MBA, Professional Accounting, Finance, Digital Economy, etc.) and the international business double degree are not eligible. Scholarship applicants need a health certificate and a non-criminal record issued within 6 months.
