ECUST is a research university under China's Ministry of Education with a strong focus on chemistry, engineering and materials. It has over 31,000 students, 17 schools, 303 programs and 14 academicians and top scientists. The College of International Education (CIE), founded in 2006, admits international students at all levels.

Campus facilities include canteens, a library, gyms and teaching buildings. From Pudong Airport to Xuhui Campus is about 60 minutes by metro, from Hongqiao about 20 minutes. Living costs in Shanghai are about 2,000–3,500 RMB per month.

On campus there are only single suites with a private bathroom and balcony. Water is free, 100 kWh of electricity per month is free, the rest is metered.

How to move in

Online booking after the admission notice and tuition payment, about a month before the semester
The whole semester is paid at once, including holidays
Move-in from 3 days before registration; rooms are held for 5 days after it
Places are limited: students without a room arrange housing off campus and register with the police within 24 hours
Checking out with more than 30 days left: 30 days are deducted, the rest is refunded
Full-scholarship students live free; early JMD applicants have a guaranteed room
