Kyoto University of Advanced Science is a multidisciplinary educational institution. Choose the direction and study program that are perfect for you.
Kyoto University of Advanced Science (KUAS) is a private university with the Uzumasa campus in Kyoto and the Kameoka campus in the west of the prefecture. There are no Japanese language courses for prospective students: the English-taught programs need no Japanese and Japanese is studied within the program after enrollment; the Japanese-taught programs require N2 in advance.

National Health Insurance is about 20,000 JPY a year; supplementary insurance is mandatory.
English-taught bachelor's. 12 years of education or a recognized equivalent are required — IB, Abitur, A Levels or an 11-year program recognized by Japan's Ministry of Education (MEXT). KUAS explicitly names Kazakhstan and Russia among countries with a recognized 11-year school. Besides an English score, a standardized test is mandatory.
Education | Eligible | Standardized test | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
11 years of school in Kazakhstan | Yes — recognized by MEXT | UNT accepted (valid 5 years), or SAT, ACT, EJU, IB, A Level | Apply with the school certificate and UNT certificate |
11 years of school in Russia | Yes — recognized by MEXT | EGE is not on the university's list — SAT, ACT, EJU, AP, IB or A Level needed | Apply with the school certificate and an international test |
11 years of school in Kyrgyzstan | Not directly — not on the MEXT list; the university considers «other qualifications» under its guidelines | ORT is not on the list — SAT, ACT, EJU, AP, IB or A Level needed | Confirm eligibility with the university in advance; reliable routes are IB, A Levels or 1 year of university at home |
12 years of school (NIS, international school) | Yes | UNT (Kazakhstan), SAT, ACT, IB or A Level | Apply directly |
College after grade 11 | Yes — based on the grade 11 certificate (Kazakhstan, Russia) | As for 11 years of school | Attach the school certificate and college diploma with transcript |
College after grade 9 | University decides | SAT, ACT, EJU or UNT (if taken) | Confirm eligibility with the university before applying |
A predicted test score may be submitted if the final one is not available yet. The university sets no minimum UNT or SAT score, but engineering requires school math and physics, bioenvironmental sciences biology or chemistry, business math or economics.
Japanese-taught bachelor's. 12 years of education are required; with fewer years — an individual eligibility review. Plus JLPT N2, EJU Japanese 200 or higher or JPT 525 or higher and age 18 by March 31 of the entry year. UNT, ORT and EGE are not required.
Master's and PhD. A bachelor's degree (16 years of education) or equivalent is required; with a 4-year bachelor's after 11-year school (15 years) the university reviews the qualification under its guidelines. For the PhD — a master's or specialist degree.
The engineering school runs projects with industry partners — robotics, drones, AI, electric vehicles and energy systems. 100% of international graduates find jobs or continue their studies.
All rooms are single; the minimum stay is 3 months paid in advance and the maximum is 2 years. International and Japanese students live together, supported by a caretaker, a community leader and tutors.
