Lingnan is one of Hong Kong's eight public UGC-funded universities, combining Chinese and Western liberal arts traditions. Its motto is «Education for Service». Small classes, close student–teacher relationships, service-learning and internships; half of the faculty have international backgrounds.

Lingnan's campus is in Fu Tei, Tuen Mun, in the north-west New Territories of Hong Kong. It is a compact university: teaching buildings, 10 hostels, the library and sports facilities are all on one site. Its small size is its hallmark — every student has access to all resources, small classes and close relationships with teachers.
10 hostels on the Tuen Mun campus with about 2,600 places. Lingnan is a fully residential university where hostel life is part of education. Rooms are mostly twin; free Wi-Fi and electricity, air-conditioning shared by roommates.
