Shanghai University of Sport (SUS), founded in 1952, is the first sport university established after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Since 2001, SUS has been jointly governed by the General Administration of Sport of China and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government.

SUS is striving to develop into a world-class sport university, emphasizing talent cultivation, academic innovation, and international engagement. The university offers a high-level mix of disciplines ranging from natural sciences and medicine to management, law, and art, with sport science as its core pillar.

Campuses and Facilities

Shanghai University of Sport features three main campuses: Yangpu, Xuhui, and Songjiang, along with teaching sites in Jiangwan and Huangpu.

• The total campus area covers 181.2 acres, with a building area of 91.4 acres.

• SUS houses the China Table Tennis College, the world's only institution specialized in table tennis recognized by the ITTF as the highest-level training academy.

• The university is home to the Chinese Wushu Museum, the world's first museum displaying the history and culture of wushu.

International students are offered on-campus or university-arranged accommodation. Rooms are furnished, with single and double options available subject to vacancy. Long-term rates start at around 30 RMB per person per day; short-term stays cost more. Estimated food expenses are about 200 USD per month.

SUS was founded in November 1952 as the first institution of its kind in New China. It is among the country's earliest sport universities authorized to confer doctoral degrees. Over the decades it has built a multidisciplinary structure combining sport with natural sciences, medicine, humanities, engineering, management, law and the arts. International student affairs are coordinated by the School of International Cultural Exchange (established in 2006, current name since 2009).
