Tokyo International University (TIU) is a private university founded in 1965 with campuses in central Tokyo (Ikebukuro) and Kawagoe. Its English Track (E-Track) programme offers four-year bachelor's degrees taught fully in English to students from more than 110 countries.

About the University

Tokyo International University was founded in 1965 with the philosophy of nurturing truly internationally minded people through Kotokushin, or unbiased harmony. Through the English Track (E-Track) programme, students from around the world earn a bachelor's degree in an English-medium curriculum in Tokyo. The university has more than 7,800 students, over 1,800 of them international, and 72 percent of E-Track faculty are international. TIU is accredited by the Japan University Accreditation Association for 2025 to 2032.

Japanese is not required for admission. All students take Elementary Japanese in their first semester and can continue up to business level.

The online application and all physical documents must arrive by 5:00 pm Japan time on the deadline.
Non-refundable application fee: 5,000 JPY.
There are no entrance exams or foundation programmes; interviews are held only if needed.
Admission and scholarship decisions are announced together; offers cannot be deferred.

Eligibility

12 years of schooling, or an 11-year national curriculum approved by MEXT (Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Ukraine and others), IB Diploma, A-Levels, Abitur or equivalent.
Data Science and AI and Digital Business and Innovation applicants must have studied mathematics in upper secondary school and submit the transcript.

Applicants with at least 6 years of secondary education or 3 years of higher education in English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK or the USA are exempt.

Financial Requirements

Applicants submit a Statement of Financial Support signed by a relative and a bank statement issued within the last 3 months showing at least 1,500,000 JPY in the supporter's account (11,500,000 JPY if self-supporting).

Campus Tokyo International University

Ikebukuro Campus (central Tokyo)

The new campus consists of the 22-story International Tower and the 4-story Garden Wing, connected by an atrium. Facilities include:

International cafeterias, an 8th-floor lounge and the Kotokuan traditional tea room

Kawagoe Campus (Greater Tokyo)

Cafeterias, the English Plaza and the Japanese Plaza, support offices, dormitories and the TIU Human and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory for Data Science and AI students.

Sakado Campus

Sports facilities for varsity clubs.

Business Economics, Digital Business and Innovation and International Relations: Kawagoe in the first semester, then Ikebukuro.

Dormitories

E-Track students may live in a university dormitory for their first semester; TIU then helps them move to private housing. Living in the dorm is not mandatory.

Students on a student visa may work up to 28 hours per week during the semester and up to 40 hours during breaks with permission.

Scholarships Tokyo International University

TIU Tuition Reduction Scholarship

Every E-Track applicant can apply when submitting the application; results are announced together with admission. The reduction applies to tuition only, not to the enrollment, operations or alumni fees. It remains valid for up to 4 years if the student keeps the required GPA, earns enough credits and follows TIU rules.

ISEP: TIU is one of nine Japanese members of the International Student Exchange Program, giving access to about 240 universities worldwide for one or two semesters.
Exchange agreements with around 30 universities in 24 countries; about 270 study abroad destinations in total.
Willamette University (USA): Double Degree Program (2.5 years at TIU and 2 years at Willamette for two bachelor's degrees in 4.5 years) and Atkinson MBA admission benefits.
Early graduation in 3 or 3.5 years and a 5-year bachelor's plus master's route.
Memorandum of Understanding with CERN: TIU is the third official cooperating organisation in Japan.
Career Experience Practicum courses with companies such as JICA, NEC, Honda and Ajinomoto, and internships with the United Nations, the EU Delegation to Japan and embassies.
